Satellite feeds from throughout the South Asian diaspora bring viewers the latest news on the international scene. OMNI News: South Asian Edition airs weeknights at 8pm on OMNI.2.
Angie Seth
Anchor and Reporter, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Angie Seth is the lead news anchor for OMNI News South Asian Edition. With an Honors degree in political science from the University of Toronto, Angie began her journalism career in 1999 at OMNI Television (formerly CFMT). She first worked as a reporter and news coordinator for the weekend newscast, South Asian Newsweek. During this time, Angie also produced two of OMNI’s diversity programs, Ishtyle and Bollywood Boulevard.
Angie has covered stories on everything from local crime, sports and entertainment, to politics, humanitarian issues and national security. Over the years, Angie has had the opportunity to interview a wide range of guests from Prime Minister Stephan Harper and numerous other political figures, to Daniel Pearl’s father, Judea Pearl, Deepa Mehta, and Juno Winner, Kiran Ahluwalia. She has also been the lead reporter on the Sharia Law debate in Ontario and the Air India trial and inquiry. Angie was given an Honorable Mention for her two-part series on “The Muslim Veil,” and in 2008, she won a Canadian Ethnic Media Association (CEMA) award for her feature story on the Ontario provincial election and what kids have to say about it.
Angie writes for the Canadian Association of Journalists and is often interviewed by other news agencies, such as the CBC, about various topics of concern to South Asians. She also hosts community events and fundraisers on a regular basis.
Angie enjoys long distance running and has participated in five marathons including the famous Boston Marathon in 1999.
Khush Panthaky
Reporter, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Khush Panthaky was born in Montreal, but has lived in the Greater Toronto Region for nearly 30 years. A graduate of Ryerson's Radio and Television Arts program, Khush first worked for the CBC program The Disability Network before joining OMNI Television (formerly CFMT) in 1995.
Khush is very active in the community, representing the station at various events. He regularly Mcs fundraisers and other community initiatives, including the annual Canadian Paraplegic Association's wheelchair relay race. As a survivor of a near-death experience himself, Khush has become an advocate for disability issues. He is also involved in Second City's improvisational workshops, keeping his creative juices flowing.
Meetu Khosla
Reporter, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Meetu Khosla began her journalism career in 2001 with a three-month internship in New Delhi as an associate producer for a weekly current affairs program. She joined OMNI Television later that year, working behind the scenes as a production coordinator and quickly moved into the role of chase producer, where she helped produce seven weekly programs including Agenda, 3D Dialogue, Medical Intelligence, Bio Library, Voices of Religion, Tech Books, and Backstory.
Meetu moved from behind the scenes to an on-air personality in 2008. Since then, she has filed reports on a range of topics for and about the South Asian community in the GTA, and the subcontinent, including local protests, community events, crime stories, business and sports news, and even occasional entertainment reporting.
Meetu is fluent in Punjabi, but has an extensive list of partially learned languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Swahili and Spanish. Born and raised in East Africa, Meetu is able to relate to the many challenges, issues and contrasting ideologies from the two different continents, thus enabling her to bring an educated and varied perspective to every story she covers.
Monica Dogra
Entertainment Reporter, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Monica Dogra joined the Omni Television team in 1999 as a reporter, covering everything from crime to community events. She also produced and hosted a business television series titled Diversity In the Workplace.
Currently, Monica is the entertainment reporter for OMNI News: South Asian Edition. Every weeknight, viewers can get their daily Bollywood scoop and catch a glimpse of what is happening on the South Asian-Canadian arts and entertainment scene. She has interviewed some of the biggest names in Bollywood, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Dharmendra, Preity Zinta, Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and many others.
Monica graduated from Humber College with a diploma in Journalism. She got her first taste of the broadcast industry at Global Television Network in Toronto, where she worked as an editorial assistant, entertainment producer and assignment editor.
Monica started training for her job as an entertainment reporter at an early age. Before she could even talk, her parents would take her to a popular South Asian theatre in Toronto to watch the latest Bollywood films. Her love affair with Bollywood continues to this day, a romance not likely to ever die.
Nauman Khan
Reporter and Anchor, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Nauman Khan joined OMNI 2 after graduating from York University, just as the daily South Asian News program was launched in 2002. Since then, he has covered some of the biggest crime and terrorism stories for OMNI news, including the Maher Arar inquiry, the Khadr family, the Supreme Court challenge to the Security Certificates, "Project Thread," and the ongoing Toronto 18 trials. Nauman's stories have always struck a balance between anti-terror legislation, human rights and racial profiling of some Canadians. Nauman has also reported from OMNI's Parliamentary Bureau in Ottawa and has contributed from overseas on the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto's assassination in December 2007 and, most recently, the attack on Sri Lanka's cricket team, in Lahore, Pakistan.
Nauman is an outdoors enthusiast. He spends his weekends exploring Ontario's provincial parks and wilderness preserves, with his wife and young daughter.
Rima Kar
Reporter, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Rima graduated with a Political Science degree from the University of Calgary in 1995. After graduation she worked at radio stations in both Calgary and Ottawa, working on various roles in administration, promotions and the newsroom.
Rima began her journalism career in 1999 as an intern at Maclean’s Magazine in Toronto. She returned to the magazine after finishing her Journalism degree at Mount Royal College in Calgary to take on the role of editorial assistant. During this time, Rima worked on the famous Maclean's University Ranking issue and began reporting on topics including pop culture, politics and lifestyle.
After joining OMNI Television in 2002, Rima spent several years behind the scenes as a producer of various shows including Agenda, Medical Intelligence, 3D Dialogue and Back Story. She also produced and co-hosted one of the station’s diversity programs, OMNI Culture. Currently a reporter for OMNI News: South Asian Edition, Rima covers everything from health reports to local court cases to national politics affecting Canada’s growing and diverse South Asian community.
Senthil Ratnasabapathy
Associate Producer, OMNI News: South Asian Edition
Senthil Ratnasabapathy’s journalistic career spans almost 25 years and three continents. Before coming to Canada, he worked in Sri Lanka and Austria for national, regional and international media outlets. He has also reported from a number of other countries, from Brazil to Bulgaria. His articles have been translated in a number of languages and published around the world.
Senthil has also taught journalism, and his creative non-fiction essay was published by Banff Press and PEN Canada in their anthology, Speaking in Tongues.
Before joining the OMNI news team, he was the Associate Producer for OMNI’s weekly Tamil program, Aaram.
