A look at what's affected by the HST

Ontario residents will start paying a little more for some goods and services in the province as the controversial HST takes effect on Canada Day.
The merged tax combines the five per cent goods and services tax with the eight per cent PST. Internet bills, haircuts, gym memberships, airline tickets and live theatre packages are among the goods and services that will see a price increase as a result of the HST.
Costs for tobacco, and services such as electricity, gasoline, and heating fuels will also be subject to the 13 per cent merged tax. Other services, including child care, and items like books and kids clothing will see no change in taxable/exempt status.
